Check in: Surah an-Nas, al-Falaq and al-Ikhlas

May 12, 2009

As salaamu alaykum,

So we are three days into the challenge, that means you should be on your way to memorising one to three surahs insha’Allah:

  1. Surah an-Nas
  2. Surah al-Falaq
  3. Surah al-Ikhlas

How are you getting along?

Virtues of Surah al-Ikhlas, al-Falaq and an-Nas

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلّم) said, “Say: He is Allah, Absolute Oneness” (Surah al-Ikhlas), ‘By Him in Whose hand my soul is, it is equal to one third of the Qur’an!’ [Sahih al-Bukhari]

Whenever the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلّم)  go went to bed every night, he used to cup his hands together and blow over it after reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas, and then rub his hands over whatever parts of his body he was able to rub, starting with his head, face and front of his body. He used to do that three times. [Sahih al-Bukhari]

Check!

If you have already memorised these surahs that’s great, but before you rush ahead:

  • Make sure your recitation is spot on and all your mistakes are corrected.
  • Read the translation
  • Read the tafsir (commentary)

Memorisation Tips

  • Try to memorise after Fajr as this is the most virtuous part of the day.
  • Listen to the surah you are memorising, it will make it easier and help you with your tajwid.
  • After memorising a surah repeat, repeat and repeat some more. In salah, whilst walking, whilst cooking, any time you get.
