Check in: Surah an-Nas, al-Falaq and al-Ikhlas

As salaamu alaykum,

So we are three days into the challenge, that means you should be on your way to memorising one to three surahs insha’Allah:

  1. Surah an-Nas
  2. Surah al-Falaq
  3. Surah al-Ikhlas

How are you getting along?

Virtues of Surah al-Ikhlas, al-Falaq and an-Nas

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلّم) said, “Say: He is Allah, Absolute Oneness” (Surah al-Ikhlas), ‘By Him in Whose hand my soul is, it is equal to one third of the Qur’an!’ [Sahih al-Bukhari]

Whenever the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلّم)  go went to bed every night, he used to cup his hands together and blow over it after reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas, and then rub his hands over whatever parts of his body he was able to rub, starting with his head, face and front of his body. He used to do that three times. [Sahih al-Bukhari]

Check!

If you have already memorised these surahs that’s great, but before you rush ahead:

  • Make sure your recitation is spot on and all your mistakes are corrected.
  • Read the translation
  • Read the tafsir (commentary)

Memorisation Tips

  • Try to memorise after Fajr as this is the most virtuous part of the day.
  • Listen to the surah you are memorising, it will make it easier and help you with your tajwid.
  • After memorising a surah repeat, repeat and repeat some more. In salah, whilst walking, whilst cooking, any time you get.

Be sure to leave a comment to let us know how your getting along. What are the ways in which you memorise, what tips and advice can you give? Share something you have learnt about the above three surahs.

    As salaamu alaykum

Just something that came into mind whilst reading the above hadith.

    Absolutely EVERYONE knows Surah al-Ikhlas.

I always wondered how amazing it was that this surah (al-Ikhlas) and Surah al-Fatiha are just two surahs that everyone just seems to know without having to ‘learn’ them. It’s like they are already engrained in our minds.

At masjid when the little kids start learning their salah, they just zoom thru these two surahs even though they can barely read the Qur’an.

I guess it is from the rahma (mercy) of Allah that we know them and there is such immense reward for reciting them. I mean Surah al-Ikhlas is equivalent to ONE THIRD of the Qur’an and it takes us less than a minute to recite it.

How easy the deen has been made for us, yet we don’t even realise…

    Shazia xx

P.S make dua that we all succeed in this challenge and the angels will be making dua for you

    Dear brothers,

    Assalam Wa Alaikum

What about if we read ‘Ayatal Kursi’ before going to sleep? Should we read it before Surah an-Nas, al-Falaq and al-Ikhlas or after it. Kindly explain.

    Jazak Allah O Khair
