Not only did the Young Muslimah’s poem get chosen as a finalist, but they went on to win, Alhamdulillah!

Farah, Ai-sha & Humaira wrote a poem earlier in the year about the wives of the Prophet Muhammad (salallahu alayhi wa salam). We entered it in a Lyrical Art competition with the theme of Sahabah, being hosted by Ammar al-Shukry and Boonaa Mohammed. They got chosen as one of the 12 finalists, and went onto win the competition.

All the other finalists were amazing, and we were amongst some very talented people. This in itself was a huge achievement for the Young Muslimahs.

JazakAllah khair to everyone involved in Lyrical Art. Especially to Ammar al-Shukry and Boonaa Mohammed who inspired our class to write poetry…

We hope to hear some new poetry from you soon girls, keep up the good work!

Sawdah Bint Zamah married the Prophet when he was 52.

Looked after his children and her love grew.

Aisha Bint Abu Bakar married at nine.

She had a lovely nature and was very kind.

Intelligence was her key, and she was wife number three.

Hafsa Bint Umar known as the memoriser of the Qur’an.

Kind and soft hearted, in the battle of Badr her first husband was martyred.

Zainab Bint Khuzaimah, Mother of the Poor.

Her husband Ubaydah bin al Harith was martyred, this shows she had been married before.

Her heart filled with kindness and compassion,

She gave away money to help others with passion.

8 months after marriage she passed away,

Buried near Khadija in Jannat-al-Baqi and still remembered today.

Umm Salamah known for her strong personality

Beautiful and wise this is the reality.

Zainab Bint Jahsh while married to the Prophet,

The verses of hijab were revealed.

For all the beauty of the women to be concealed.

Jawariyah Bint Al-Harith daughter of the opposition leader, full of courage to ask for freedom

The Prophet liked this and she was proposed to.

Guiding people to Islam as she was supposed to.

Umm Habibah married to Ubaydullah Bin Jahsh accepted Islam while her father did not

Her husband converted to Christianity and he tried to convince her too.

She remained steadfast on the path that was true.

The Prophet heard about this as word spread fast

He wanted to marry her and he did at last.

Saffiya Bint Huyeyy her father the leader of the Jewish tribe

They wanted to kill the Prophet so they tried and tried.

This was a failure and Saffiya married the Prophet.

No one could get in the way not even her father could stop it.

Maymuna Bint Al-Harith accepted Islam before hijrah took place

She was known as one of the believing sisters and full or grace.

Called the symbol of goodness, she narrated 76 hadiths

Last wife of the prophet, to the people of Makkah she brought peace.

May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon them all

Our beloved Prophet who always spoke clearly, he would always smile and laugh and tell jokes that were only true.

Our merciful Prophet who would always put Allah first, who would pray so much that his legs would start hurting and who would cry whilst reciting the Qur’an.

Our beloved Prophet who would walk faster than everyone else, whose hair was neither curly nor straight, and even in old age only 14 white hairs were counted upon it.

 .

Our merciful Prophet who would wear white clothing and only the top button of his shirts remained unfastened, our Prophet who owned only four pairs of shoes throughout his entire lifetime.

He was our last Prophet, Prophet Mohammed (SAW) the best role model to Muslims everywhere.

1. Making Ghusl

‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar used to take a bath on the day of al-Fitr before coming to the prayer-place. [al-Muwatta']

2. Wearing your best clothes

Ibn ‘Umar used to wear his best clothes on Eid. [al-Bayhaqi]

3. Eating an odd number of dates

Narrated Anas bin Malik: Allah’s Apostle never proceeded (for the prayer) on the Day of Eid-ul-Fitr unless he had eaten some dates. Anas also narrated: The Prophet used to eat odd number of dates. [Bukhari]

4. Making Takbir

Ibn Abi Shaybah reported that al-Zuhri said: “The people used to make takbir on Eid when they came out of their houses until they reached the prayer-place and until the imam came out. When the imam came out, they fell silent, until the imam said takbir, then they said takbir.” [Irwa’]

الله أكبر الله أكبر لا إله إلا الله والله أكبر ولله الحمد

Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, la ilaha ill-Allah, wa Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar wa Lillahi’l-hamd.

Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great, there is none worthy of worship but Allah, Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great and to all praise is to Allah.

5. To go out by one route and come back by another

Jabir ibn ‘Abdullah reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to vary his routes on the day of Eid. [Bukhari]

6. Greeting one another

Jubayr ibn Nufayr said: “At the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him), when people met one another on the day of Eid, they would say, Taqabbal Allahu minna wa minka – May Allah accept from us and from you.” [Ibn Hajar. Fath.]

Talha said, ‘I saw in my dream that I was at the door of Paradise when behold, I was with both of them (the two men). Someone came out of Paradise and allowed the man who passed away later to enter first. Then he came out again and allowed the martyred one to enter. Then he returned and said to me, ‘Go back, for your time has not come yet.’

Talha woke up and began to inform others about this and they were all surprised. This reached the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and when they informed him of it, he said:

من أي ذلك تعجبون؟ قالوا: يا رسول اللهّ هذا كان أشد الرجلين اجتهاداً ثم استشهد ودخل هذا الآخر الجنة قبله فقال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وسلم) : أليس قد مكث هذا بعده سنة؟ قالوا: بلى. قال: أدرك رمضان فصام وصلى كذا وكذا من سجدة في السنة؟ قالوا: بلى. قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وسلم): فما بينهما أبعد مما بين السماء والأرض

He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘What are you surprised about?’  They said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! Out of them both, this one strove harder (in Jihad) then he was martyred but this other one was entered into Paradise before him.’ The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘Did he not remain behind him for one year?’ They said, ‘Yes (he did).’ He said, ‘Did he not reach Ramadan, fast and pray with such and such number of prostrations in the year?’ They said, ‘Yes.’ The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘So the difference between them is greater than what is between the heavens and the earth.’

Jazakum’Alahu khayra

Bishr bin as-Sirri said:
